What Is Sustainable Living
Sustainable living is essentially about using less and creating more. With sustainable living you are moving away from a marketed commercial economy and focusing on living simply. Growing your own food, baking your own bread, handmaking your own items and using eco-friendly products.
Urban farming, homesteading, self sufficiency and sustainable living all go hand in hand. You are choosing to step away from the busy 9-5 and focus on homemade, homegrown food and simpler life.
We made this switch a few years ago when we bought our little yellow house. Granted we are still on a city lot on the edge of farm country. But we grow our own fruits, herbs and vegetables. Bake our own bread, homeschool our children and why you ask…
After years of 4 am wake up calls, hours in traffic and missing my kids lives the stress was getting to me. I felt called to be home with my kids. To plant a garden (to grow roots). To be able to make a from scratch dinner not rushing through a drive thru.
Essentially, we wanted what our parents and grandparents had. Room to breathe, a garden to grow our food and to not feel so rushed to be places. And time…time to spend with our family, time to read a good book, time to learn a new DIY skill.
Environmentally Friendly Products
Eco-friendly products give us this opportunity by using less, supporting a sustainable lifestyle and saving us money.
Can Eco-Friendly Products Save You Money
I love how sustainable products can make life simpler and save you a ton of cash. For example my favorite stainless steel water bottle. I take it everywhere and you can refill it on the go.
Essentially, you could fill a reusable stainless steel bottle with warm or cold beverages. A disposable bottle of water costs $2+ every time you buy it and that adds up. Plus think of all the plastic waste. A stainless steel water bottle will last a long time and keep your beverages warm or cold. And you aren’t paying to use it every time. Plus it is super handy to have, easy to fill and use.
Another great sustainable product you use again and again and we love is mason jars. You can use them for just about anything – canning, drinking, flower vases, baking. The list goes on. One item, multiple uses and environmentally friendly.

Top Eco-Friendly Products
Do you have bulk buy stores or eco-friendly no package stores in your area? We have an eco-store locally. They sell sustainable items and dry goods. You choose your packaging paper bags or clean glass jars. I love this store for spices, tea, cooking items and natural products.
If you don’t have an eco-friendly store locally source out natural products online. You will love what sustainable goods do for you. I love the natural aspect but I also love the need to shop less and use less.
