Urban Homestead Income

Are you looking for ways to make extra income from your homestead? Maybe you need a little bit extra to cover the bills or pay for an expansion, new garden beds or a vacation. Discover some amazing urban homestead income ideas that are super easy to do and can bring in the cash.

What Is An Urban Homestead

An urban homestead is a small farm, urban lot or apartment where the dwellers or owners are looking to support a more sustainable lifestyle. Meaning you want to grow your own food, learn to homestead on a smaller scale, bake your own bread and create you own natural products.

How Do I Start An Urban Homestead

Starting your own urban homestead is super easy. All you need is some soil, a few pots and some seeds to start a garden. If you are wanting to be a bit more creative and make your own soaps you will need a few supplies.

Urban homesteading is about creating your own sustainable environment so every urban homestead will be different. For example we garden, preserve, make our own tea blends, can and shop local. We aren’t allowed to have chickens on our city lot so we don’t gather our own eggs but we do support a farm in our area. We create our own soaps and candles and try to be as self sufficient as possible.

How Do Urban Homesteaders Make Money

Given that every homestead and every urban homestead are different your options for making extra money are limitless. We have homesteading friends who sell chicks and eggs, others who sell quilts and soaps.

Figure out what you are good at. What your homestead has in abundance and monetize that. This could be growing flowers for bouquets, selling microgreens, running a CSA program or selling in demand pastries or sourdough bread.

How To Make Money Homesteading

Most homesteaders don’t get into homesteading to make money. They are searching for a simpler life. A more sustainable life knowing where their food and household products are coming from.

Given this most homesteaders will make money from several different ways or income streams. They may sell produce from the garden, blog or Youtube about it and offer urban homestead coaching.

Or they may sell chickens and eggs, rent out a farm field and be looking to write a book.

Homesteaders are doers, thinkers, people who don’t sit still and they want to share their knowledge. A lot of urban homesteaders still have a 9 to 5 job even though you may see them at the weekend farmers market.

How To Make Money On A Small Homestead

If you have a 1/4 acre or 2 acres or 5 acres you are classified a small homestead or urban farm but by no means does that limit your homestead income.

You can grow a lot of produce in a small space. You can bake a lot of artisan sourdough bread in a farm kitchen. And you can preserve, create and sell your extras. Plus you could write about it, create a podcast or host a class.

There are so many ways to make an income on a small homestead. You need to figure out what you like, what you are good at and how many things you can juggle at once. Start with one idea and build from there. Rome wasn’t built in a day, nor was a homestead, nor was a business.
